Document & Manuscript Notes

How to take notes on your documents and manuscript in Motif.

Transcript

Notes are an easy way to add and organize notes about individual documents or your entire manuscript.

Add Notes to a Document

To add a note to a Document, open a project from the Your Projects page of the app and navigate to the Write tab. Choose the document you want to add a note to.

Select the “Notes” icon on the right sidebar in your Editor. The drawer will open to reveal a tab system for switching between Document and Manuscript Notes as well as a button to add a new note.

Select “Add Note” to create a new note in the Document tab.

A new note will appear. You can title the note and write in the note input box. This is a semi-rich text editor, where you can use shortcuts to format your note text with bold, italic, underline, or strikethrough.

Add Notes to Your Manuscript

To add a note to a Manuscript, open a project from the Your Projects page of the app and navigate to the Write tab. Choose any document from your Manuscript list.

Select the “Notes” icon on the right sidebar in your Editor. The drawer will open to reveal a tab system for switching between Document and Manuscript Notes as well as a button to add a new note.

Choose the Manuscript tab and select “Add Note” to create a new note that you can access from any document in your Manuscript list.

A new note will appear. You can title the note and write in the note input box. This is a semi-rich text editor, where you can use shortcuts to format your note text with bold, italic, underline, or strikethrough.

Manuscript notes are useful when you want to remember something about your manuscript as a whole when you’re writing or track an idea across different chapters.

Duplicating & Deleting Notes

To duplicate or delete a Manuscript or Document note, open the “Notes” icon on the right sidebar in your Editor.

Click the three dot menu in the upper right corner of the note you want to duplicate or delete.

Choose “Duplicate” to make a copy of the note. The duplicated note will appear at the bottom of the notes list.

Choose “Delete” to permanently delete the note from your Project. Please be aware that Notes cannot be restored.

Transfer Notes Between a Document or Manuscript

You can transfer notes you’ve created under Document Notes to Manuscript Notes, so they are accessible across all your documents.

The same is true in reverse. You can move Manuscript Notes to the Document Notes list for the document you have open.

Click the three dot menu in the upper right corner of the note you want to move. Select “Move to Document Notes” or “Move to Manuscript Notes” depending on your current notes tab.

A notification will appear to let you know your note has been moved. It will appear at the bottom of the notes list that you moved it to. To view its new location, select the “View” button in the notification.
