Welcome to Motif! We're Simone and Juan, the co-founders, as well as a YA fantasy writer and talented software engineer, respectively. We started Motif to solve a challenge Simone knew first-hand: writing tools aren't keeping up with many writers' needs.
Like many writers relying on older software, Simone found herself constantly hitting walls. Fragmented workflows, limited planning features, and clunky interfaces hampered her creative process. She kept searching for a better way to write only to come up empty-handed.
In February 2023, Juan asked the fateful question: "Why can't we make your dream writing app?" A lightbulb went off, and Motif was born.
Today, Motif offers an intuitive writing experience with integrated story planning, plotting, and research tools that don’t break you out of your creative flow. There's still work to be done, but we're committed to unifying the entire writing journey and guiding writers towards success.

Our goal is to build an all-in-one storytelling platform that takes writers from the initial idea to published work.
Our roadmap includes seamlessly integrating tools for planning, researching, writing, revising, and publishing guidance. We'll enrich the individual writing experience by fostering a community where writers, editors, and readers can connect. And we'll simplify the path to publication, whether going the self-publishing or traditional route.
We created Motif to be the modern writing platform I'd always wished for. Our small, but mighty team, is fully-focused on empowering writers of all genres and experience levels to craft and publish captivating stories.

Simone is a YA fantasy writer and marketing leader with 7+ years of experience launching and growing new products. She has a BA from Harvard and an MFA from NYU.
Juan is a senior software engineer with a decade of experience building complex products at high-profile start-ups and Github. He has a BS from Columbia.
